About Shaykh
Aqeel Mahmood

Shaykh Aqeel Mahmood is originally from Birmingham, UK. He graduated from the Faculty of Sharīʿah at the Islamic University of Madinah in 2011. During his time in Madinah, he completed the memorisation of the Noble Qur’an and was awarded an ijāzah in its recitation. He also had the privilege of studying under a number of renowned scholars, including Shaykh ʿAbdul-Muḥsin al-ʿAbbād (ḥafiẓahullāh).

For over 15 years, Shaykh Aqeel has been actively involved in daʿwah, Islamic education, and youth development. He has taught children and young people in a variety of settings for more than ten years, delivered Islamic seminars and workshops, and has spent almost a decade teaching in secondary education. This has given him first-hand insight into the challenges and pressures facing Muslim teenagers growing up in today’s society.

Alongside his educational work, Shaykh Aqeel is a trained counsellor, equipping him to combine authentic Islamic guidance with a practical understanding of the emotional, social, and personal issues affecting young people and their families.

Through Arkaan, his aim is to provide young Muslims with the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools they need to strengthen their Islamic identity, deepen their relationship with Allah, and navigate the challenges of modern life with clarity, resilience, and purpose.

Why Arkaan?

“After years of teaching in both Islamic settings and mainstream secondary schools, I witnessed first-hand the unique challenges facing Muslim teenagers today. Questions about identity, peer pressure, social media, doubts, and the constant influence of modern culture are becoming increasingly common, yet many young Muslims lack a safe environment where these issues can be addressed through the guidance of the Qur’an and Sunnah.”

“Arkaan was established to bridge that gap. Its mission is to provide authentic, engaging, and practical Islamic programmes that strengthen faith, build confidence, and equip young Muslims to navigate modern life while remaining firmly grounded upon the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf.”
